There has not been a significant development in personalization techniques in over a hundred years.
That changed in 2008 with the introduction of ambigram personalization from Glyphusion.
The Ambigram Generator is an exceptionally sophisticated ambigram creation engine that goes beyond single name personalization
and goes beyond simple monograms. This is the first personalization system that contains
two names (or words) within the
same physical space.
The easiest way to understand it is just to see one. So, here is a design of the
names "Mark" and "Laurie" (Glyphusion's president and his
wife).
As you can see, the design says one name when right-side-up, and another name when
upside-down. You can also see that the words do not need to have the same number of letters.
Cool! What is it?
It's called an '
ambigram', and it is the perfect personalization technology
for couples (
Matthew /
Melissa). However, in addition to creating
designs for couples, this system can personalize a first name to a last name (
Matthew
/
Warren), a name to a title (
Doctor /
Warren), or a word to
another word (
Geriatric /
Doctor).
The personalization possibilities are limited only by your (and your customer's) imagination.
Where can you use these designs?
Ivan / Rene Ambigram
These ambigrams are designed to be etched into jewelry, embroidered onto hats
or tattooed onto bodies, among other things. Our
Licensees purchase these
designs for incorporation into their own personalized products.
Ambigram products
may be slightly more expensive for the end user, but they are well worth it due to the 'coolness' factor. They
increase sales revenue for the manufacturer by offering the newest, most interesting way to make a product unique.
How are they selling?
We are introducing ambigram personalization to the marketplace for the very first time, so there is less than a year of historical sales data.
However, already it is very clear that ambigram personalization is hot, and is a great business opportunity:
- Interest in ambigrams is on the rise...big time (as recorded by web analysis tracking tools)
- Our early licensees are surpassing sales expectations, even in a down economy
- Ambigram tattoos have a built-in 'word of mouth' mechanism. The more they are displayed to others, the more people there are to go looking for one of their own.
- Flowers and chocolates became cliche (and therefore undesirable) a long time ago. People are looking for unique and original gift ideas (especially for their romantic partner)
- Christmas, Valentine's Day and Birthdays are all great gift-giving holidays. Personalized ambigram products are the perfect gifts for these Holidays, especially for close friends or partners
- In May of 2009, Ron Howard released a blockbuster movie about ambigrams, which increased ambigram demand by orders of magnitude (details below)
What's this about a Movie?
Angels & Demons Teaser Poster
On May 15, 2009, Ron Howard released the sequel to his movie "The Da Vinci Code" (which
grossed $758 million in 2006). Tom Hanks
again played the lead character, and received roughly $53.6 million for his role in the movie (before royalties), making his role in this movie the highest paid acting job in the history of movie making.
In a nutshell, this movie was a very serious project, and the airwaves and Internet were flooded with marketing and promotional materials.
You may have already guessed that the movie we're talking about is "Angels and Demons". If you haven't seen it, a primary part of the plot is that Catholic Cardinals are being branded on their chests with ambigrams.
For most people, the "Angels and Demons" movie is their first exposure to ambigrams, and the novelty and curiousity of these designs have had
a direct and dramatic impact on ambigram design demand.
Stated differently, ambigrams just received about $100 million in exposure from Hollywood.
The early teaser poster from the movie (left) did not show a photo of Tom Hanks, instead it displayed ambigrams prominantly in the background and the iPhone app game for the movie uses ambigrams to indicate the various levels.
How About Some Ambigram Ideas?
Ambigram tattoos are becoming very hot. If you are involved in the tattoo industry, you will definitely want to consider using the ambigram generator to increase your ability to deliver on what your customers will be looking for in the months to come.
Another example could be an ambigram mouse pad. A mother and father could give their two sons, who share a computer, a new mouse pad that is personalized with BOTH of their son's names, and their sons could simply turn the mouse pad so it says their own name as they sit down.
Jewelry is another market where ambigrams could be hot. There is just nothing else that can compete with the coolness of a design that can be rotated and still be read. For example, couples can intimately combine their names into a single design to be put on a ring that they each wear.
And what better way to say "We'll be friends forever" than by combining
your names together on a custom piece of jewelry, an article of clothing or one
of many different personalized products.
